Dr. Karen Brown has been in private practice in Houston since moving to Texas in 1991. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C. She is a graduate of the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, and completed her psychiatric residency at Long Island Jewish Hillside Hospital in New York City, where she served as Chief Resident and was also named Resident of the Year. Dr. Brown has been board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) since 1991. In addition, she has had the honor of serving for many years as a member of a team of national examiners for the ABPN. Dr. Brown has experience in emergency psychiatry and teaching residents, as well as inpatient psychiatry where she has served as medical director for acute care units and for quality assurance.
Dr. Brown currently only treats outpatients. She diagnoses and treats all psychiatric conditions in adults of all ages, and adolescents over the age of sixteen. She has a special interest in treating mood and anxiety disorders, utilizing psychopharmacology, including the latest available treatment, Spravato (Esketamine), which is available as an in office treatment. Dr. Brown provides integrated treatment utilizing biological therapies and psychotherapy, as well as working in conjunction with other mental health providers to prescribe biological therapies while they provide counseling. Dr. Brown believes in delivering all treatment herself and does not turn over patient medical care to nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Dr. Brown is not on any insurance panels; however receipts can be provided for reimbursement when available.Dr. Brown is a founding member of Memorial Psychiatry, a recognized center of excellence in Psychiatric practice in Houston.
